BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON — Authorities say a 25-year-old woman is hospitalized in critical condition after she fell while rock climbing in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Unified police Lt. Justin Hoyal said that  the woman was rappelling down a 70-foot incline with a co-worker in the Storm Mountain area of the canyon when she lost her footing and fell about 50 feet.

The co-worker summoned rescuers a little after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The injured woman was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition with face and head injuries.
