According to CBC News, professional skateboarding legend Tony Hawk of Carlsbad, California was in Calgary on Saturday.
Hawk, who performed in the parking lot of Calgary’s Deerfoot Mall in northeast Calgary, was giving a live skateboarding demonstration to spectators. Hawk, who is 45 years of age, recently developed a new sponsorship with Sport Chek, one of Canada’s leading sports equipment stores. Hawk will also perform in Winnipeg on July 15 at Polo Park and in Toronto on July 18 at Sherway Gardens, in the Sport Chek parking lot at both events.
Hawk is known for accomplishing the very first 900, a two and a half aerial spin on a skateboard ramp. He accomplished the feat at the 1999 X-Games in San Francisco. Hawk is also considered one of the most influential skateboarders of all-time for winning a remarkable ten X-Games gold medals in his career. He has endorsed a video game series, and developed his own exhibition tour called Boom Boom HuckJam.
