PULASKI CO., Ind. – Emergency personnel rescued a stranded kayaker at the Tippecanoe River State Park on Tuesday.
Walt Krzyzak, 65, of LaPorte Co. and his wife were kayaking on the Tippecanoe River when his kayak hit something under the water and flipped over. He was thrown into the river and grabbed onto a nearby snag.
Visitors in the park overheard Krzyzak’s cries for help and contact park employees. Officers were then able to rescue Krzyzak from the water.
He was not injured, a release said.
Police say the incident could have been prevented if Krzyzak was wearing a lifejacket.
