Maryland Natural Resources Police say they have found a man who went missing May 15th.

The body of Jason Leonard Crawford Sr., 36, was pulled from the North Branch of the Potomac River on Thursday evening after being discovered by a father and son who were kayaking.

The positive identification of Crawford, a Cumberland resident, was made Friday by the Maryland state medical examiner in Baltimore.

Following an alert Thursday by Maryland Natural Resources Police to the Allegany County 911 Center, members of the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team removed the body a little before dark.

The kayakers noticed the body about one mile downstream from the Mason Recreational Complex in Cumberland’s South End.

In an interview, investigator Jon Dudiak said that Crawford had been in the river for some length of time.

Dudiak said there were no obvious signs indicating the cause of death.

“We won’t know for a while until the medical examiner goes through all the toxicology tests,” Dudiak said.

Mineral County sheriff will continue to investigate the matter.
