Stander (25) died in a road accident earlier this year.
The 2013 698kilometre race gets underway at the Meerendal Wine Estate on Sunday.
Sauser says Stander will be in his thoughts throughout the race.
“Our pain is temporary but the memories are going to live with us, it’s very sad”.
Sauser says Stander’s legacy will play a major role in the race.
Race organiser Kevin Vermaak says that Burry’s absence will be felt for many years to come.
“Burry was the first South African winner of the race. We had been looking for a South African winner of the race since 2011. There will be hole in the race this year with no defending champion. It will be like that for many years to come, not just this year.”
