FOR a perennially active grandmother, the only way to celebrate her half-century was speeding down sand dunes on a board.

Pauline Walters enjoyed her big day on October 30 with family as they embarked on the 1770 LARC Paradise Tour.

The mother of three boys has spent her life in Gladstone, going to school at Gladstone State High School and raising three sons with her husband Brian.

The grandmother of three was currently training for the State National Masters Swimming Titles in Rockhampton next year, after she took up the sport when she was 21.

Mrs Walters spruiked the benefits of an active lifestyle and said Gladstone was the perfect town to live a healthy, sporting life.

“Gladstone’s very familiar and there’s good fishing here and there’s plenty of sport,” she said.

“I’ve always played sport and kept active, played basketball and tennis and I won a silver medal at the Masters State Nationals in 2000 as well.”

The former rep basketballer and softballer said she liked to stay active with Masters swimming for the social side as well as the fitness, but laughed about how she would fare nowadays.

“I used to run from Gladstone to Tannum but I couldn’t run 100m now,” she laughed.
