Bocce, sailing, and kayaking were all apart of the festivities at the Special Olympics invitational at Lake Tobesofkee, Saturday.

Bocce teams showed their skills in a local competition with athletes from Bibb, Monroe, and Putnam counties.

State athletes enjoyed a day of sailing and kayaking.

Senior coach, Kelli Britt, says 33 athletes kayaked a 200-meter course.

She says she hopes to have teams compete in the World Summer Games 2 years from now.

“It’s just a very different event. It gives them another opportunity to showcase their abilities. That’s what it’s all about,” Britt explained.

Britt says she also hopes kayaking will become a state game for the Georgia Special Olympics in the future.
