SAN ANTONIO — Hundreds of people are expected to honor the memory of those lost on September 11, 2001 by climbing the stairs of the Tower of Americas on Wednesday.

Among those participating are local first responders who will climb the tower in full bunker gear.  Each person will be given the name and a tag of someone who lost their life.

For James Nicholson, a member of the San Antonio Police Department, it’s personal.  “I’m honored to carry the name of Michael Boyle, he was a good friend of mine,” said Nicholson.  “He was a great man, we grew up together on the same street and he lost his life that day.”

Organizers expect 600 participants but said they can accommodate up to 900 people.  Registration ends at 7:45 a.m..  A moment of silence will be marked at 8:46 a.m. symbolizing the moment the North Tower of the World Trade Center was struck.

Along with first responders, the public is invited to participate.
