An unresponsive person was found floating in the Potomac River near Barnum, WV on the afternoon of Saturday, August 24 and was later pronounced dead.

The victim, Louis Mickelson Peterson, 65, of Herndon, Va. was kayaking with his son between Bloomington and Barnum when they got separated. A person found him floating, pulled him from the water and performed CPR until responders arrived. Emergency Medical personnel from Tri-Town EMS transported Peterson to Potomac Valley Hospital in Keyser, WV where he was pronounced dead.

It is presumed that Peterson had some type of medical condition. He was wearing a lifejacket and helmet when found.
