The incident took place at approximately 2:20 p.m. Oddly, no person was on or near the board – the “best” kind of shark incident measurable.

The shoreline has been closed for one mile on each side of Ka’a Point until dusk; DLNR and Ocean Safety will make a determination  on whether to reopen the area.

According to witnesses, the shark was estimated to be 10-12 feet in length; no information is currently available on the type of shark.
