And in a 40-strong competition, 11-year-old Morrison performed superbly in the 3.5m class earlier this month, finishing as runner-up.

The Laceby Stanford Junior School pupil, who also lives in the village, was the North Lincs Invaders’ star performer on the day.

However, Calanthe Hendrikse, inset – from Waltham – was unable to compete in the coveted event, having sustained an injury during training.

Tom Anderson came fifth in the 5.8m fleet, while Katy Ellis and Owen Train received merit awards for being the most improved young windsurfers.

Team 15, which is now in its 12th year, is an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) initiative that was created to make the sport more accessible and appealing to youngsters at grass-roots level.

The young windsurfers – who are all under the age of 15 – sail for their local team, the North Lincs Invaders.

Based in Barton, this year, the squad will compete against Pugney’s Pirates (Wakefield) and Rother Valley Country Park (Sheffield).

One of those clubs will be crowned as the RYA North Zone Team15 champions later this summer, earning a place in the national final.

Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for keen windsurfers.

These are run on a weekly basis by specialist RYA coaches – kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of each session is low.
