A 33-year-old Sacramento man kayaking on the San Joaquin River was rescued Tuesday night after he went over a waterfall, the Madera County Sheriff’s department said.
Michael Tate was kayaking just south of Devils Postpile National Monument at an elevation of 8,000 feet late Tuesday afternoon when he was injured after going over a 10-foot waterfall, the sheriff’s department said.
The sheriff’s department asked the California Highway Patrol for air support when it was determined it would take ground crews several hours to make it to Tate.
He was safely rescued and taken to an area hospital in Mammoth Lakes in Mono County and is expected to recover from his injury, the sheriff’s department said.
