This drawing shows the way Mercedes put the right pressure into their much-talked-about ‘FRIC’ (Front and Rear Inter-Connected) system, which is understood to link the front and rear suspension hydraulically and can be adjusted in a similar way to the brake fluid. Mercedes and Lotus have been running such systems since 2011 and now other teams are trying similar solutions. With this suspension system there is a displacement of hydraulic fluid from one end of the car to the other in order to help keep a constant ride height and aerodynamic balance. In Malaysia Mercedes also had new turning vanes and pillars beneath the chassis.
