The event culminated a week-long school-wide “Gear Up for ISTEP” with dress-up days such as team day, twin day, crazy hair day, and ended with YMS Spirit Day.
YMS filled the gym as a sea of green cheering for BMX bikers as Justin Hardin, from Solution Action Sports, introduced tricks, flips and jumps. Students screamed in amazement at each trick.
YMS Principal Heath Dudley encouraged Yorktown teachers and Emily Karas to make it happen. The school was supported by many sponsors including the Yorktown PTO, the Animal Medical Center, Linda and Roger Smith, Steve Folgate (All State Insurance) and Kishel Photography.
Karas took initiative with a team of teachers to create the YMS Talent Show to raise money, so every student had a “Gear Up for ISTEP” T-shirt created by YMS art teacher Meghan Zick. In addition, Karas and a team of teachers worked together to raise more than $500 for prizes during this special convo for ISTEP week.
“All of our teachers and staff pulled together as a team and created an awesome event for YMS students,” said one teacher. The teachers especially thanked Melvin Harker because he prepared the gym for the big event.
